Some of Rome’s most expensive hotels are already overbooked, and the cost of a weekend stay at Martha’s Vineyard hotel is now expected to reach $1,200 per night.
The cost of renting an apartment in Rome can reach $2,000 per month for an apartment, according to a report by the hotel company, which runs the popular Italian city.
According to the report, the average hotel stay will cost an extra $5,000 or so if there is a large crowd.
The report was published in the weekly newspaper La Repubblica.
The hotels are not alone in being overbooking.
Some luxury properties in Rome have already been booked for weeks.
The average hotel occupancy is around 45 per cent, according the latest figures published by the Hotel Association of Rome, an umbrella group for hoteliers.
The hotel industry has faced a string of problems this year, including a number of fires in hotels and a massive blackout that shut down all public transport for two weeks.
Rome was hit by the same type of emergency in November, and more than 100,000 people were evacuated from their homes, leaving thousands homeless.
